LEXICON I — SURGO MISTEROS
Prologue
This lexicon gathers words I meet in the studio—terms that arrive while I sew or listen to cloth breathing. They are not academic language but thresholds: modest attempts to name the living processes through which spirit keeps entering matter or matter seeking to be offered to spirit.
Each word is a needle threading the visible to the invisible. These definitions are invitations, not instructions.
1. Surgo Misteros
“Rising Mysteries” —While formally rendered in Latin as Mysteria Surgentia, I use Surgo‑Misteros (Greco-Roman) to denote the intuitive speech of ascent beyond linguistic borders
A current of renewal through which art reclaims its ancient role as bridge between material and supersensible worlds. It is neither a manifesto nor a movement but a quiet uprising of sincerity against irony—a rising of wonder itself.
2. Vitality Forces
Subtle energies within all material life (from plant, to animal) and human life. Wool, linen, silk, cotton remember their beginnings; they long to serve consciousness again. The artist’s task is to awaken these forces so they move from slumber to speech.
3. Participatory Seeing
To see with the whole self so that perception becomes reciprocity. When gazing truly, the viewer feels themselves looked at by the work—the artwork participating in their remembering.
4. The Mothers
Archetypes of creation, protection, and repair. They are the feminine architectures of renewal—soft yet immovable, restoring form to what fear has scattered.
5. Mystery as Method
Working with reverent uncertainty. Mystery is not absence of meaning but abundance of meanings waiting to be born through one’s hands.
6. Tenderness as Technology
A counter‑mechanic of the soul: precision guided by compassion. The soft gesture, when held in awareness, becomes the sharpest instrument of change.
7. Re‑Enchantment
To re‑ignite the sacred circulation between attention and world. Beauty is not escape but belonging understood through wonder.
8. Final Participation (after Barfield)
The stage of consciousness where maker and made, viewer and vision, stand within one another. It is the maturity of perception—the redeemed conversation of spirit and matter.
9. The Bridge of Cloth
Fabric as a cosmology. Threads bind histories, lineages, prayers, and even weather; every weave is a diagram of cooperation between earthly and celestial rhythm.
10. Luminous Evolution
Transformation that proceeds through illumination, not rupture. Progress here means brightening—remembering more of what already lives in the light.
11. Soul Memory
That hinterland in consciousness where personal and ancestral stories share one bloodstream. Art stirs this memory so time can reconcile itself.
12. The Fairytale Field
A subtle stratum of existence where symbolic truths play out in living images. It touches both the inner child and the philosopher—the healing theatre between reason and dream.
13. Metamorphic Craft
The discipline of making in which technique becomes an alchemical instrument. Every stitch is both engineering and invocation.
14. Redemption through Softness
The restoration of meaning through gentleness. It suggests that the quiet gesture can succeed where power has failed.
15. Mystery Narratives
Stories born not from remembrance but from correspondence with the unknown. They arise when imagination ceases to recall and begins to reveal — when inner images speak in present tense. These new fairytales reverse the logic of nostalgia: they do not preserve history, they forecast soul evolution.Through them, art becomes the language by which mystery records its own unfolding.
Coda — Surgo Misteros
This lexicon gathers language for one purpose: to name the slow return of spirit into art. Each definition opens a small passage between what is seen and what is felt. In the studio and in the act of looking, that passage widens.
Surgo Misteros describes that widening—a practice of attention where wonder takes form and matter begins to speak.
